| We
are delighted to be able to offer private tuition - available daytimes
and evenings. Please contact us to book
your session.
All lessons are recorded to CD for you to use for
practice between lessons.
Beginner’s private
tuition
Lessons focus on getting you to get the most out of your
voice. We may not be able to turn you into the next Mariah Carey
or Michael Jackson but you will certainly see a marked improvement
in your ability to hold notes, pitch appropriately and extend your
range.
Professional’s private
tuition
Whether or not you’ve had training before, I can almost guarantee
that there is more to your voice then you even know. We’ll
deal with issues of eliminating the break between chest voice and
head voice, taking the pressure away to relieve fatigue and developing
range and flexibility. Heather will help
you to cope with the demands of a heavy gigging schedule or prepare
you for an important audition. Regular voice coaching is as important
as a professional athletes coaching. If you’re not taking
care of your instrument you can end up damaging yourself. Heather
will make sure you are always on track.
**NEW ** Children’s Group Lessons
These classes are open to children aged 6 to 16 and take place on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. The children will learn the basics of technique, explore performance and vocal styling. Having fun with singing is the main priority in these classes and we use mainly pop music as well as some musical theatre and other genres to make sure they have a great time. Classes are limited in size to ensure that the teacher can address each individual child’s needs.
Adult Pop Choir
We cover music from pop, musical theatre and anything else that takes our fancy. This is purely for fun- we don't take ourselves too seriously, and is open to anyone over the age of 16- whether you've sung before or not! Please contact us to book a place.
Kids GLEE group
This is a group for talented and gifted young singers aged 10-16. Entry is by invitation or audition only. We take pop and musical theatre songs, harmonize and then choreograph them. Dance experience isn't essential but certainly helps! (Please note that auditions are very informal- and you will find out on the day whether you have a place in the group.)
This group is given lots of performance opportunities and will be entered into competitions and professional work when up to standard.
Lessons Via Skype
Heather is now able to offer lessons via the internet
using a free internet calling service called ‘Skype.’
All you need for this is a good microphone and camera set up on
your computer. These lessons work in a similar way to an ordinary
lesson- with the only difference being that you are in charge or
recording your lessons. Payment for these lessons can be made using
PayPal (please note there is a £2 charge to pay using this
method.)
Performance Coaching
These lessons will help you to develop your stage
presence. We will show you how to interpret lyrics correctly and
adapt your movement and expressions to match the style of music
you are singing. We will also cover basic choreography, confidence
building and how to deal with stage fright and nerves. These sessions
are designed to work alongside your vocal technique lessons and
are particularly useful if you are preparing for an audition or
competition.
Performance Parties
Performance parties give group singers and students who take private
tuition the opportunity to show off all the skills they have acquired
whilst studying at Heather Baker Singing Studios. All performers
are encouraged to invite friends and family along to a laid back
performance to watch all the singers (and have a couple of drinks!)
This insures that we have a friendly audience to play to who will
be encouraging towards some of our more novice singers. Tickets
must be purchased for the event.

Growing up in a household surrounded by music, and also having parents who heavily influenced Helen’s love for the art, she continues her admiration for music through teaching. Not only is Helen an enthusiastic teacher, she also is a skilled songwriter, having penned songs from as early as five years old. She now regularly performs her own songs accompanying herself on piano. Helen’s teaching has enabled her to work with many talented groups of people, including the vocalists of Lancashire Jazz Orchestra and students from a vast amount of local schools, colleges and institutions. A recent success was the young singer Olivia Archbold who went through to the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent. Through experimentation with the voice, and a lust for learning, Helen researched into different techniques and found Speech Level Singing to be the best possible way of utilising the voice in a healthy way. Vocal technique is key to Helen’s teaching, as she feels this knowledge is the base of vocal stability, which then leads to reliability, and therefore, a confident performer. She connects with her students on a personal level, exploring their personality to enhance their overall performance. Helen is currently a Level 3 SLS teacher.

CHRIS ADLINGTON -
Performance Coach |
Laura-Jane has been singing since she was 8 years old. Her love of performing arts began when she spent 6 years at a local stage school, performing frequently. She studied dance for many years but when she met Heather Baker her interest in singing began to grow. She has been a student at HBSS for 2 years now and signed up to become a teacher in June 2011. Since then her teaching experience has grown and her schedule is getting busier and busier! Children and Adults, alike, very quickly warm to her and are constantly impressed by how much she is already able to help them improve their voices. |
