One of the major componants of singing technique is understanding how to manage airflow through closure of the vocal cords (or vocal folds). Understanding how your vocal cords work, what impact they have on the sound you produce and how you can begin to change the way they function to improve your singing is an essential part of developing your voice. This course takes you through a journey of discovery to understanding exactly what your voice needs to improve your vocal cord closure
Singing in tune is certainly a fundamental! But why do some people find this easier to do than others? And why is it that even great singers sometimes go flat or sharp when they sing? This course will dispell some of the myths surrounding 'tone-deafness' and help you identify keys areas where you can improve your brain's ability to recognise and replicate pitch accurately.
Learning how to adjust and reshape your vocal tract is arguably the most important element of learning to sing- its the thing that allows you to find the tone and quality of sound you want. In this course you will learn all about what the vocal tract is, how it can be moved and what effect that might have on the sound. You will be invited to assess your own voice and try out a series of exercises to see which movements improve your sound and which do the opposite!
Discover the power and excitement of belting in this informative class designed to help you understand the technical foundations of a healthy belt, the history of belting and how it's developed over the years, what might be getting in the way of your belt sound and how you can begin to address that and get belting better yourself.
Mix is an essential skill for singers who want to be able to move from low notes to high notes without getting stuck or encountering unwanted breaks or flips in the sound. In this course you'll learn the basics of what mixing is, what is required to make that happen and what might be holding you back from finding it in your own voice. You'll see singers working on their mix using various strategies that you can replicate and try for yourself at home!
It's totally normal to feel nervous about a performance or an audition but how can we manage those feelings so they don't interfere with our success as a performer? In this course you'll learn how to frame your fears around singing and how to find ways to reduce those negative feelings.
